War
Pat cried. He had just received a letter from London. It brought him grave news. Although the valiant British RAF had won the Battle of Britain, he found out that the Luftwaffe had gone down out of the sky with his family. His jolly father and his wonderful mother. They had cared for him, throughout his life. And it was like he had lost a part of his body. He could actually feel their pain, their anguish. He suddenly was drawn back into his thoughts.
Let us leave Pat to pacify his soul for now. I will now tell you his story. Pat was a young man from Birmingham. Although he was not that good at studies and academics, he was a brilliant strategist. He used to play 'Capture The Flag' all day when he was young. He was called the undefeatable one, because he was never known to lose such a game. After passing out with, well average marks, he went home and told his mother his ambition. He wanted to become a sailor in the British Navy! His mother was scared. She had raised this boy and taught him all the right virtues. She didn't want to lose him. But still, she let him go, as she told her self, "Every bird leaves the nest." This soon became a famous statement and I know that all of you know about this phrase.
Pat quickly joined the Navy. He became popular with all the other sailors an because of his quick wit and his wonderful brain, he was soon promoted to the rank of Captain. He was to be the Captain of the HMS Endeavour . And he was a lucky man, for the Endeavour was the best ship in the entire British Navy! He took charge of the Endeavour and sunk many enemy ships with it. With its powerful guns, and its nuclear missiles, it was indestructible.
Coming back to the present, Pat was devastated. Anger filled his heart. He then vowed to himself that as long as he was alive, he would be merciless towards the enemy. He would destroy every enemy ship in front of him, whether it came under a flag of truce or not. But while he was making these great statements, German U-Boats had surrounded his ship! These U-Boats were submarines and were very primitive, but if had vastly superior numbers they could destroy any kind of ship. You can compare them to mosquitoes. Unaware, Pat was suddenly jerked out of his dreams when his first mate, David, told him that their sonar system had found that many U-Boats had surrounded them. But as he was talking, missiles were launched from the devilish submarines, and they ploughed their way through the ocean. Pat gave the order for flares to be shot. Hopefully, if those missiles were heat seeking, they would go for the flares. But that was not so. The missiles blew up when they hit the ship. The mighty vessel groaned under impact. The Endeavour began to reply by firing torpedoes. This battle continued for many hours until finally, though badly damaged, the Endeavour won.
Pat shouted curses at the sinking U-Boats. He cursed them until his throat became dry. He actually wanted the poor souls to die. He had no idea that these people had been forced to fight by Adolf Hitler when they did not want to. Pat gave the order to David to turn the ship to the nearest, friendly port. He went to the wounded and tried to cheer them up by boosting their morale. Surprisingly, the casualties had been light. But still, Pat felt responsible for every man who had got injured. That night, he did not write about his day in his diary. Instead, he began to form strategies on how to defeat the Germans. The strategy the U-Boats had used was something he had never seen before. He also looked to the future. Britain got all its supplies from foreign countries. These supplies were transported by sea. The trade ships were unaccompanied. Suppose they were attacked, they had no means of defence. He decided that small destroyer ships should accompany the trade ships. If they were attacked, the destroyers would use small bombs called depth charges. These bombs could not be located and had a lot of power.
Pat wrote to the Prime Minister of Britain. He hoped they would take his letter seriously and take action. He and his crew were at Cuba. His mechanics were working with all their might and power to repair the ship. They were sitting on a log when suddenly they heard noises. They looked up to the sky, only to see planes above them. Pat cursed under his breath. Did they really have to come and attack them again? He shouted at his crew to take cover, but some of them had been blown apart by bombs. And these planes were strange. Instead of dropping bombs from a height, they were deliberately diving and dropping the bombs! He took a machine gun and started firing madly at them. Luckily, he found their weak point. Foolishly, they were carrying their bombs by the tail! Pat found out that if you just shoot the bombs, they will blow up and send the plane into a crazy spinning action. He tried to make sure that not many pilots were killed, so that he could question the survivors. He worked with his men, trying to mend his broken ship. He worked so hard that finally, one of his muscles tore. He rested for a lot of time inside his quarters. When his ship was fully repaired, he gave the order to sail all the way back to HQ in Britain. He destroyed every U-Boat he encountered. He sent the Luftwaffe pelting out of the sky. He had also secretly planned a plan. He would fire every nuclear missile he had on German cities! HQ approved of it and he had the trust of the King. On 13 June, 1944 Berlin was nearly destroyed. Dresden was wiped out of existence and several other cities were battered to death. Adolf Hitler comitted suicide. The war in Europe was over, and Pat was made the head of the British Navy.
So that was the story of Pat. But let me give you an advice dear reader, do not become as ruthless as he was for he, like the Germans wanted to kill all the jews but was imprisoned and given death sentence a year after he was promoted. He was found to be continuing the death camps in Europe and it was a shame.
