The Boy Who Lost His Purpose In Life

Once upon a time there was a little boy called Bruno. He lived with his family in Berlin. His mother was a simple housewife, who always did her work on time, and his father was a great general in the german army.  He was very gentle and kind, and never would say no to play a game. Even the mighty Fuhrer, was astonished by his father and gave important jobs to him. Bruno was very proud of his father. He always thought that next to God came his Papa. He cared a lot for his Father. Whenever he got the time he would try to utilise it by spending time with his father. At that time Bruno thought that his only purpose in life was to care for his father. But little did he know what was going to happen next.....

One day, Bruno found his father trying to wear all his war gear, with his mother assisting him. Bruno was confused. He asked his father why he was wearing all his heavy but protective armour. His father sighed and with a heavy heart told his son that Germany was in bad times and he was being called by the Fuhrer to destroy the entire British Armada. Bruno was shocked. He felt tears welling up behind his eyes, but he bit them back and wished his father good luck. When he asked in how much time would he come back, his father laughed and said that he would not come back for a long time. Bruno decided to be positive and waved goodbye to him till his father was out of sight. Bruno spent his time waiting on the doorstep, worrying about his father and anxiously waiting for his return. He pictured that moment in his mind, his father holding out his arms to hug him, and bruno diving into him. His love for his father was so deep, that not even a person could measure how many fathoms deep it was. He waited for days. The days turned into weeks and the weeks turned into months. But still his father did not come. Then the dreadful truth came. His father had been killed in battle. He had died trying to save his fellow countrymen. Bruno fainted at the very word of it. He was very sad. He had lost his purpose to live. First, he was angry. How could his father, Whom he loved so much, sacrifice himself for a few peasents? He was very angry. The anger was almost beginning to turn him red in colour. But soon he calmed down. He realised that whatever his father had done was the right thing to do. How sad would the peasents families be? Bruno was sad as he went doen to the graveyard. He kissed his father one last time on the cheek, and watched him being put in the ground. But what had been done was done. He then knew what his Father wanted him to do, to be successful in life.

A few years later, Bruno was a famous man. He made germany the best country in europe in financial matters. When a reporter asked him who inspired him to do this, he answered, "My Father. When i was young, I thought that my only purpose in life was to care for him. But I lost that purpose when he got killed in battle. I may have made Germany the best country in Europe, but i still do not have any purpose in life."

  1. The story, apart from being an intriguing read, is an interesting insight into the author as well :)
